diabetes....
this chapter.... is all about the search.... for the root cause.... of diabetes....
so.... diabetes.... what is causing it.... it affected less than two percent of the population in america way way back in nineteen twenty.... it might have even affected less than half a percent back then.... and today.... it depends on who you ask.... but some estimates say that it affects around fourteen percent of the population.... the cdc says that it affects nearly nine percent of the population.... the diabetes rate really started to rise around nineteen fifty....
everybody wants to blame sugar for the diabetes epidemic.... but.... is it really sugar.... or is it TOO much sugar.... or is it something else entirely....
sugar has been around for ten thousand years.... they started cultivating it around eight thousand bc.... and then they started refining it around twenty five hundred years ago.... so.... if sugar alone was the culprit.... do you not think that diabetes would have become a more serious problem thousands of years ago.... and yet.... it really started becoming a problem around seventy years ago....
so.... eye ask myself.... what else could be the villian here.... what else could be the culprit here.... so.... eye ask myself.... what has changed in america.... what do we have today.... that we did not have back in nineteen twenty.... when did things change.... what came about.... about the time that the diabetes rate started to climb....
here is what eye have come up with.... eye am sure that there are more things.... and eye will add them as someone points them out or as eye think of them.... but here is what eye have for now....
first of all.... there seems to be another trend that has been correlated with the diabetes trend.... obesity.... eye cannot find the data before nineteen sixty.... in nineteen sixty the obesity rate in america was around twelve percent.... and today.... the obesity rate is over forty percent.... that is right.... forty percent.... ouch.... many people would like to say that the incline in obesity is causing the incline in diabetes.... that there is some connection with diabetes that is being caused by obesity.... this makes a lot of sense.... however.... what is causing obesity.... and is what is causing obesity.... also causing diabetes.... eye am going to pivot away from the obesity connection for now.... and perhaps come back to it at another time....
fast food.... let us look at fast food.... the first fast food restaurant.... white caste.... was opened in nineteen twenty one.... but.... the fast food trend did not really take root until after mcdonalds was formed in nineteen forty.... the golden age of fast food.... was from nineteen fifty to nineteen seventy.... when burger king and taco bell and kfc were established.... so.... the growth of the fast food industry also corresponds with the growth of the diabetes epidemic....
eye also do not have much of a history for the pharmaceutical industry.... but eye have found.... that four billion prescriptions were dispenced in the united states in two thousand nine.... and the number of prescriptions increased by over fifty percent by twenty twenty two.... nearly seven billion prescriptions are being dispensed per year today.... that is over twenty prescriptions per person per year.... twenty....
what if prescriptions are slowing down our metablism.... suboptimizing our systems.... eye am bipolar.... and eye have been certified three times in my life.... one of those times.... eye was forced to take a prescription drug for my mania.... eye was forced to take zyprexa.... and in three months.... eye gained fifty pounds.... and eye became diabetic.... other than these three months.... eye was on a low dose of zyprexa for twenty years.... a very low dose.... and it reduced my metabolism.... greatly.... after eye became diabetic.... my doctor suggested that eye go on metformin.... eye asked her if eye could lose the weight instead.... if eye could bring my blood sugar in line by loosing weight..... she said.... that would work to.... at the time.... eye was a two hundred and forty-five pound man.... and.... eye could not lose a pound.... unless eye ate less than fourteen hundred pounds a day.... and eye worked out twice a day.... eye got on the eliptical for twenty minutes.... two times per day.... a normal two hundred and forty-five pound man working out twice a day.... would have lost weight if they reduced their daily consumption to less than eighteen hundred calories per day.... but.... because eye was on a very small dose of zyprexa.... my metabolism slowed down.... so much.... that eye had to eat four hundred calories less than the typical man.... in order to lose weight.... eye had to eat only fourteen hundred pounds in order to lose weight....
eye bring this whole story up.... because eye am wondering.... how many other prescription drugs slow down the metabolism.... if the average individual is going through twenty prescriptions per year.... lets say.... that means that the average individual is on two medications (twenty prescriptions divided by twelve months).... if the average person is on two medications.... how many of us are seeing our metabolism slowed down by these medications....
and what about antibiotics.... are they having an effect on the diabetes epidemic.... the first antibiotic.... penicillin.... was developed in nineteen twenty eight.... since then.... nearly thirty other antibiotic classes have been introduced.... these antiobiotics are fairly indiscriminate.... they kill the good with the bad.... they destroy our microbiomes.... could destroying our microbiomes be causing diabetes....
speaking of our microbiomes.... what about pasteurization.... pasteurization dates way back to eighteen eighty two.... when pasturization of milk first began.... long before the diabetes epidemic.... however.... over time.... other products became pasturized as well.... they do not call it pasturization.... but they now boil sugar before it is crystalized.... killing ALL of the bacteria.... good and bad....
lets just make a supposition here.... lets suppose.... that.... when they harvest sugar cane.... it is healthy.... meaning.... that the good bacteria on the sugar cane.... is winning the battle against the bad bacteria.... so.... if you did not kill ALL the bacteria on the sugar cane.... you would inheret the microbiome from the sugar cane.... which was more good than bad.... and in your digestive track.... the good bacteria will continue to win the war against the bad.... however.... if you kill all of the bacteria on the sugar cane.... AND.... you take antibiotics.... killing all of your bacteria.... what is going to replenish the bacteria in your digestive track.... probiotics.... which.... cannot have ALL of the good bacteria that is in food.... we have identified many varieties of good bacteria.... how many have we not identified.... how many good bacteria are on plants and in animal milk.... that we have not identified yet.... and when we kill all of the bacteria in milk and on plants.... what have we killed.... that we cannot replace....
as an effect of the loss of good bacteria.... we could be loaded up with bad bacteria yeast mold and parasites.... eye had a stool sample done ten years ago.... and eye did not find out the results until a few months ago.... eye found out that eye have had h pylori at extremely high levels.... a yeast and fungal infection.... and two parasites.... in my body for at least ten years now.... and they have been reacking havoc with my body.... the h pylori caused atrophic gastritis.... pernicious anemia.... and eventually.... hypochlorhydria.... eye am now taking a massive amount of antimicrobials to kill off the h pylori yeast fungas and parasites.... but the damage has been done.... eye now have cartenoid tumors in my stomach.... eye recently took another test.... a metabolic test.... and.... because of the hypochlorhydria.... eye am not breaking up food.... and therefore.... eye am not absorbing nutrients.... as a result.... eye am low on most essential vitamins.... eye am low on many essential minerals.... and.... eye am low on antioxidants.... as a result.... my body is not functioning properly.... my mitochondria are NOT functioning properly at all.... my methylation process is not functioning properly.... my good microbiome is almost non-existant.... and eye am dealing with serious oxidative stress in my body.... eye just ask.... could this be why eye have diabetes.... could the bad bacteria and yeast and mold and parasites have destroyed my body.... including my ability to process sugar.... my livers ability to control the release of blood sugar in the morning.... my pancreases ability to produce insulin.... and.... my cells ability to absorb sugar.... if eye.... first.... get rid of the bad bacteria and yeast and mold and parasites.... and then eye get my body absorbing nutrients again.... and eye fix my mitochondrial and methylation disfunction.... will eye cure my diabetes.... eye guess.... stay tuned on this one.... eye am killing the bad guys.... and eye am supplementing with all of the nutrients that eye am deficient on.... stay tuned.... and see if my body repairs.... stay tuned.... and see if my blood sugar levels come back into the normal range....
hmmm.... eye say.... hmmm.... when two things line up.... it makes me wonder if they are connected.... flouride was first added to drinking water in nineteen forty five.... this is about the time that the diabetes rate started to climb in the united states.... studies suggest that flouride can affect thyroid and sex hormone levels.... but.... more importantly.... it may also have a negative effect on insulin levels.... it may have a negative effect on the pancreatic function....
hmmm.... once again.... eye say.... hmmm.... the school lunch program in the united states began in nineteen forty six.... also... about the time that the diabetes rate started to climb.... about the time.... that BOTH the obesity rate and the diabetes rate in this country.... started to climb.... about the same time that the federal government decided to start pumping our children full of crappy food.... in order to plump us all up.... do you know why the school lunch was implemented.... it was because the military.... could not find enough people to qualify for the armed services.... people were too skinny.... so the federal government implemented the school lunch program to plump us all up.... did it work.... did they achieve their objective.... did they achieve thier objective so well.... that they overshot it.... and over plumped all of us.... is the school lunch program.... responsible for making us all obese and diabetic.... hmmm.... it is full of crappy crappy food.... some of the same food that they feed animals.... to plump them up....
what about the low fat craze.... or.... the saturated fat bad movement.... polyunsaturated fat good movement.... or demonizing cholesterol.... in the late fiftys.... ancel keys wrote over twenty papers demonizing saturated fat and cholesterol.... telling all of us it was the cause of heart disease.... and some people say.... his results.... were based on flawed studies.... and in nineteen sixty one.... he made it on the cover of time magazine.... to tell the nation.... to stay away from saturated fat and cholesterol.... tellling us all to eat carbohydrates.... and we started eating our carbs.... without fat.... which would have slowed down the absorbtion of the carbohydrates in our body....
and.... what about skim milk.... in the nineteen fortys.... whole milk was becoming too expensive.... so.... someone came up with skim milk.... milk with lower butterfat.... lower overall fat content.... and... in nineteen eighty-five the usda recommended a switch to low fat dairy.... could consuming all of that lactose.... all of that sugar.... without fat.... to slow down the absorbtion.... be harming our systems.... could that be causing diabetes....
eye originally thought that the cause of diabetes might be related to breaking apart wheat....
